Pinterested: Pennyweight

Pinterest is not only a wonderful recipe/wedding/DIY hub, it boasts some of the best curated style boards I've ever seen. That's what I primarily use it for, and spend most of my "online window shopping" there. One of my favourite style boards is that of Elise's of Pennyweight.

Her board is a collection of contemporary femininity married with a modern approach to relaxed menswear for women, if that makes any sense. That is what my personal style is completely about. I like to dream about the most girly, romantic pieces and covering everything in a lovely chiffon (thoughts of that scene in Teen Witch where she covers her lampshades in pink chiffon came to mind...)- realistically, I wear knit sweaters or button-ups, pants, and boots or flats of some sort almost every day. I don't wear jewelry and my handbags stay pretty consistent. Oh, and I have thick black framed glasses. Pinterest is really the best outlet for me to satisfy my inner Keira-Knightley-in-a-period-film desires, but also access my real life wardrobe inspirations.

Sweater Weather

After Chicago's swift tease that we all might endure a light Autumn/Winter season, the weather is now back to seeing-my-breath and double-layered-socks cold (as well as indoors if you're too stubborn to keep the gas running like me). The absolute worst, apart from if there was a massive blizzard, is getting into an even colder car every morning. Grabbing a cold steering wheel is painful. Even with gloves, I dance around it. Lately, I've been happily sporting a Liz Claiborne chunky (I really hate that word) knit sweater that I discovered at a thrift store for a mere $2.49. It's my most cherished clothing item at the moment. The creamy biscuit colored sweater is heavy, but not overbearing, and has a SUPER chunky rollover at the wrist that I purposely let weigh the rest of the sweater down to give it that extra laziness that I love above thick sweaters. My goal now is to find similar pieces in my favourite colors for this season, which are oxblood, mustard, dark teal, and red.

Pinterest is like the ultimate window shopper's indulgence. It satisfies your shopping urge without feeling your funds are dwindling. I find so many pieces on there I wish I could buy, but sometimes it's pleasant to just browse and generate ideas or inspiration within your own wardrobe. I chose a few sweaters I particularly like this season, and those that are easily duplicated (for probably no more than a few dollars at your local thrift store).

First Post

Welcome

It's 12:27 AM and I'm laying on my bedroom floor, in the dark, contemplating Thanksgiving leftovers. I've spent a good portion of my night working on the aesthetics of this blog, but I still could only come up with "First Post" for the title of this first post. Maybe it's because I feel like I'm writing a letter to nobody right now, and spent even more time coloring & decorating that letter. Either way, this is my first post, I added some cute variations of "Welcome" to a photograph from Pinterest, and now I think it's time for sleep (and pie).
